Heaven in Healthcare
Transform Work UK was invited to Eastgate Church in Gravesend Kent on Saturday 12th October to speak at the Heaven in Healthcare Conference. It was a real privilege to share testimonies of God at work through Christian Workplace Groups in organisations across the UK. We focused on hospital groups and the impact they are having on the NHS, especially those that have received formal recognition through the NHS Trust's diversity and inclusion frameworks. After our talk, we had the opportunity to pray with many who are now keen to set up CWGs formally within their healthcare organisation.

Watch Emma's stories in these two videos taken at the conference. She is already sharing the love of God with her colleagues, but is now keen to engage with management. This will give her the opportunity to bring positive benefits to the whole organisation and all staff.
The conference was jam-packed. We particularly loved hearing about EMERGE, an organisation that works with young people in hospitals who are experiencing self-harm and suicidal thoughts. If you are part of a CWG in a hospital that could use some practical hands-on support in this area please contact https://www.emergeadvocacy.com. It is a great way that your group can engage with management through introducing them to Emerge. It really is practical Christianity at its best, serving people, serving the NHS, serving Jesus!

Dr Pete Carter, one of the directors at Eastgate, founder of Heaven in Healthcare, and a former GP now church leader, gave a challenging talk focusing on healthcare. He said that there are around 50,000 Christians working in healthcare in the UK. Can you imagine what would happen to the face of healthcare if we could mobilise these 50,000 to live in the power and presence of the risen Lord Jesus. Pete read from Romans 15:13:
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
If you live in joy and peace, you will change the world around you. How do you receive and keep joy and peace in the workplace? The passage says by trusting in Him, our Father. So it is not difficult to receive joy and peace, we just have to trust in God. If we truly get to grips with this it will help our personal and working lives as we will worry a lot less. When you operate in trust you will be filled to the overflow of joy and peace which results in hope. This overflow means that joy and peace and hope will spill out of us wherever we go, whatever we do. What organisation wouldn't want this?
People say the NHS is in a hopeless situation. Question - what does the NHS need to turn from being hopeless to hopeful? There is no hopeless in heaven. There are no lack of resources in heaven. It needs us Christians, people who trust in the God of HOPE, who are full to overflowing with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit, who can tap into the wisdom and resources of heaven. He who lives in us brings all the hope, joy and peace we need. If we as Christian healthcare professionals could get a grip on this we could change the nature of the National Health Service.
