Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday returns in 2026
 

An invitation to help churches pray, reflect and act for the transformation of work.

Following the success of the inaugural Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday last year, plans are now underway for this year’s event on Sunday 4 October 2026. Churches, chaplaincies and Christian communities across the country are warmly invited to take part and help shine a light on the importance of faith, care and presence in the workplace.

Last year, some places of worship simply shared the Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday video, while others shaped an entire service around the workplace environment and the challenges Christians can face at work. This flexible approach will continue in 2026, allowing each congregation to mark the day in a way that best fits its own context.

Why Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday matters

Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday is designed to help congregations understand what workplace chaplains do and why their role matters. Chaplains offer pastoral support, a listening ear and a compassionate presence in the everyday places where people work, gather and serve.
For an organisation committed to transforming work, the day is an opportunity to recognise that workplaces are not only sites of productivity, but also places of relationship, pressure, purpose and spiritual significance.

The example of Jesus reminds us that ministry has always moved beyond religious buildings and into everyday working life. He met fishermen, tax collectors and others in the places where they worked, listened to their stories and called them into a deeper sense of purpose.

How churches can take part

Churches can support Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday in several simple ways. They may choose to show the video at https://youtu.be/tkA6CUBB5ZU, include prayers for workplace chaplains, invite testimony from people involved in chaplaincy, or shape a whole service around the realities of working life.
Further ideas and resources are available at https://workcarewm.org.uk/workplace-sunday/. The initiative is being shared with churches of all denominations and continues to receive support from leaders across a wide range of Christian organisations.

A call to prayer and action

The hope for Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday is that churches will pray for workplace chaplains nationally, recognise any chaplains within their own congregations, and encourage more people to explore whether chaplaincy could be part of their own calling.
It is also hoped that more businesses will see the value of workplace chaplaincy as part of their wider pastoral support for staff. In a changing world of work, chaplains can help create spaces for care, dignity and hope.

Workplace Chaplaincy Sunday 2026 is an invitation to bring the realities of work into worship, prayer and community life — and to ask how faith can help transform the places where people spend so much of their lives.
