Equipping Christians for Their Mission at Work
Have you ever heard of "Workplace Ministry" in a church? Or wondered what it looks like in action? Let me help you understand.
A Workplace Ministry in a church is focused on enabling and equipping working people to be witnesses for Christ in their workplace. It’s about supporting, encouraging, growing, and praying for them as they navigate their work lives with faith.
I currently lead the Workplace Ministry at my local church, Regent Chapel in Newcastle, and it’s been an exciting journey. This ministry has been running for four years now, and I’d love to share how it all began and the impact it has had.
The Birth of Workplace Ministry at Regent Chapel
About four years ago, I wanted to share the incredible work God was doing through the Christian Workplace Group I lead at my own workplace. I saw this as a powerful way to encourage others at my church, showing them what God can do in their work lives and inspiring them to start their own Christian Workplace Groups.
When I approached the church leadership with the idea, they were incredibly supportive. One of the leaders, Andy Gibson, challenged me to go beyond just a one-off event. Instead, he encouraged me to establish a full-fledged Workplace Ministry at Regent Chapel. Did I know exactly how to do that? Not at all. But when God gives a vision, He equips His people. And so, He provided the resources, the vision, and the plan for us to begin our monthly Workplace Ministry sessions.
The Ministry in Action
For the past four years, the Workplace Ministry at Regent Chapel has been a place where working people come together once a month to be equipped and encouraged. Each session lasts two hours, and it follows a structured format:
● We open with a prayer,
● Share “God in action” moments from our workplaces to encourage one another,
● Study and discuss workplace-related topics using resources from organisations like:
LICC (London Institute for Contemporary Christianity)
Evangelical Alliance
● Spend time praying for one another’s work-related challenges.
These sessions provide the perfect environment for people to grow in their faith and become more effective ambassadors for Christ in the workplace. You can see a picture from our first session of 2025 below!

Expanding the Vision
Through the Workplace Ministry at Regent Chapel, we’ve been able to invite Christian workplace organisations such as Transform Work to lead workshops. These events have covered topics like “How to Start a Christian Workplace Group” to further equip our members. You can see a picture below, from our “How to Start a Christian Workplace Group” event from last year in partnership with Transform Work.
The original vision God placed in my heart was not just to serve our church but to help other churches across the UK establish similar ministries. After four years of growth and maturity, now is the time to reach out and support other churches in starting Workplace Ministries.
Why Workplace Ministry Matters
Every Christian in the workplace plays a vital role in fulfilling the Great Commission. A Workplace Ministry at a church can equip, encourage, and support working people in their calling to represent Christ in their workplaces. By having this ministry, churches can empower their congregation to be effective witnesses in their workplaces.
At Transform Work, our vision for Workplace Ministry in churches is to help churches establish their own ministries that support and equip working people. We want to be a catalyst for change, providing the guidance, resources, and experience to help churches launch and sustain these ministries.
