Peak District
I’m Andy Smith, Ambassador for Transform Work.
I live near the Peak district. Many people assume that because it is hilly that is why the Peak district is so called. No. It is where an Anglo-Saxon tribe, Pecsaetan, lived. A bit like the Angles occupying what is now East Anglia. Over time the origins of the name get lost.
When addressing each of the seven churches in the book of Revelation, Jesus describes Himself using terms associated with the city He is addressing.
Smyrna for instance was a dead city for hundreds of years until the 3rd Century BC when it came back to life. Did that impress Jesus? No. Jesus stated He is the one who truly died and came back to life again.
When reading the bible and you come across descriptions, beware the original meaning might not be the same as it is today. Ask the Holy Spirit and your favourite bible app to give you insight. You might be surprised.
