Celebrate Christmas!

Picture3

The day after our group had discussed how we might celebrate Christmas, I took a call from Tom who works in Children’s Social Care in our Council.

“Are you still involved with the Christian group?”

“Yes ... ”

“Are you planning to run a carol service this year?”

And I explained the conversation at our group the previous day.

Tom organises a party for Sefton’s looked after children in our Town Hall every year and thought it would be great if the decorations could have a life beyond their party at the end of November.

I emailed our group and asked them to pray about our plans. Was God nudging us to think about organising an event after all?

I forwarded the email to Annie who runs a Christian community theatre company locally and who has helped us organise Christmas and Easter displays when we were full time in our offices. I didn’t ask her to help as she is already busy co-ordinating a Christmas grotto and nativity experience in the local shopping centre.

She replied the next day:  “I’d love to help you make something good but simple, and short, work this year.  We have enough time.  Shall I join your online session on Wednesday to see what you’re thinking and add some thoughts…?”

We met up.  We decided to organise "Carols and Mince Pies".  We want to include a variety of people and groups. We will invite a local community choir. Annie will do a short drama as a shepherd's daughter with a strong Scouse accent and a Christmas message.  We will advertise on our intranet and ask our staff if they  would like to take part in any way.

Our Chief Executive says he would love to join us.

Our group decided not to organise an event to celebrate Christmas this year.  God, it seems, has other plans.
