Bedford Borough Council Christian Network have been at it again!

Following on from previous events at Passover and Pentecost, the network organised a celebration of the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (or Shelters – Sukkot in Hebrew) complete with themed food, always an attraction for non-regulars!

Sukkot is a week-long feast (see Lev 23 v33-43) when Jewish families traditionally construct shelters or booths at their homes and eat meals or even sleep in them in commemoration of their ancestors’ 40 year trek out of Egypt living in tents.

This year the Feast fell in the week beginning 23rd September so the Borough Hall group gave over their meeting on 25th September to a Christian celebration of this ancient Jewish festival.

Publicity Officer Ian Holloway, together with his young niece Rhiannon, even made an edible shelter for the occasion (see photo) but the seven-strong assembly could not bring themselves to destroy it so it was sent back home with Ian to enjoy with his Dad (Transform Work UK Area Ambassador Adrian) and their family.

Ian commented that these themed events were extremely useful for Christians to understand the Jewish roots of their faith as well as filling in the long gap between Easter and Christmas in arranging the group’s programme!
