Clean Easy more than collecting Catalogues...
Interview wit Claire from South Wales on the TWUK stand at Spring Harvest
Claire, tell me what you do?
I’m employed to do a bit of cleaning and a bit of computer work, but most of the time I do Clean Easy which is catalogues and orders.
Okay – and do you enjoy the work that you do?
Yes most of the time, it’s just a bit hard when it’s pouring with rain.
How long have you been doing this sort of work?
About 2 and a half years.
Do you enjoy the flexibility of the work?
Yes, I can work when I want to, most of the time. And I fit it in around the weather or how I’m feeling or what other things I want to do like gardening and cooking.
Okay so there’re some benefits to this sort of work then?
Yes
Do you find the work quite lonely, working on your own?
I enjoy working on my own.
Tell us a little bit more about your work, what’s involved?
It’s about delivering catalogues to houses and then collecting them a few days later; and keeping records of where they all are, and who wants to order things. And then I go back about a week or two later with the orders and yeah it’s just sorting out catalogues and orders most of the time and keeping databases on the computer.
Does your faith ever come into your work?
Sometimes I have a few minutes to chat to someone on my rounds. Some people seem really lonely, many of my clients are elderly people and like having someone to talk to even if it's just for 5 or 10 mins. When an opening arises I mention that I go to church and believe in God or something like that.
Have you ever had the opportunity to pray with anybody?
No not really although I sometimes pray before going on my rounds and I pray for God to bless the people I meet. If I see people who are having some kind of problems or their not very well I often will pray for them as I go from door to door.
So you could be the only person that some people see in a day?
Sometimes
Wow I can see how you could be a real ambassador for God as you do your work.
